This January will mark the 84th birthday of Civil Rights pioneer and leader, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The city of Atlanta will come together to commemorate the work and legacy of Dr. King with more than a week of events leading up to MLK Day on Monday, January 21st, 2013.
Events, many of which are free to the public, begin on Friday, January 11th with the King Holiday Observance Kick-Off Party at The King Center’s Freedom Hall in Atlanta. Below are just some of the free events during MLK Week in Atlanta.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in Atlanta includes three public events, beginning with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Annual Commemorative Service at 8 AM at Ebenezer Baptist Church. At 2 PM the King Week Holiday March & Rally kicks off at Auburn Avenue traveling from Peachtree to Jackson Street with the rally in the King National Park Area. During the day, participants can mark the day by participating in the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service Project sponsored by Hands on Atlanta. Participants can take part in diverse service projects throughout the city.
